The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team lost to Burnet 2-0 March 8 in the final District 24-4A match.
That means the Lady Mustangs (9-3) will enter the Class 4A playoffs as the third seed from the district.
The Lady Dawgs (17-5-2, 11-1 district champions) scored both goals in the first half.
“Proud of how the girls worked hard and handled adversity,” Marble Falls head coach Abigail Blunt said. “The girls played with class. Two of our starters went down throughout the match. We kept the pressure on their backline. We missed the goal by inches on a few shots.”
Blunt said the Lady Mustangs used their Spring Break “to heal and recover” as they turn their attention now to the start of the postseason.
They welcome Brownwood at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in a warm-up contest.
As for who the Lady Mustangs face in the bi-district round, Blunt said they will know more after District 26-4A, the companion district, finishes its final match Tuesday, March 19. Currently, the district has a three-way tie for first between Boerne High, San Antonio Davenport and Wimberley. Marble Falls will face that district’s second seed.
But no matter who they play, the coach said her players will be ready after facing more challenges this season.
“Our girls did well this regular season,” she said. “They handled more adversity between injuries that changed our lineup and whatnot than they have previously, and it didn’t show. They kept a great level of play throughout the regular season. They are a tough group. We have a phenomenal group of girls, and I am thankful to continue to go into battle with them.”
